North of Bayonne are "les Landes"...

With a wide protected natural environment, "les Landes",
greatest artificial forest in Europe , faces Atlantic Ocean.

Tarnos, Ondres, Labenne, Capbreton : north of Adour river begins an immense beach that stretches miles and miles away up to Garonne's mouth.

Tarnos beaches are, with Anglet ones, the closest to our home.

Their sand is fine and golden, but beware : here the ocean is wild, « baïne » streams can be dangerous and we advise to respect watched bathing areas.

The Hinterland offers its gastronomy (la cuisine landaise is one of the best in France!) : goose, duck, guinea-fowl, asparagus and of course foie gras !

If you like it, you also can see bull-fighting and cow races.

Unless you prefer take our four bikes for long forest rides. For instance, you can start from Ondres (15min. from home) and follow a bicycle track that will lead you, along the banks of Boudigau, to Capbreton. It is an easy ride even with young children.

   From Biarritz to Hendaye
sandhills leave place to small cliffs of pleated rocks.

The ocean digged caves, sand banks and some islets retain ocean's fury : the basque coasts offers a lively spectacle, always renewed.

Alternating headlands, beaches and cliffs, this coast shelters the charming villages of Bidart and Guéthary, that are also great surf spots.

Kepa Etchandy's Ibaifoto...

Saint-Jean-de-Luz, historical city, as Louis XIV married there Marie-Thérèse, princess of Spain, was caught by hight society tourism, born in Biarritz.

Sea-side resort villas grew there among basque houses and 17th century palaces.

From this pleasant blend of styles emanates a certain sweetness of living you'll appreciate while strolling throught its narrow streets, from the "Grande Plage" to the fishing harbour.

On the opposite side of the bay, don't forget to bathe at the tiny Fort de Socoa beach (pedestrian access).

A gorgeous cliff road rapidly leads you to Hendaye.

On your way, you could go for a walk through Abbadia castle's moors and even visit the castle.

Hendaye has the widest beach of the basque coast. Here, sea is always sweater and warmer than elsewhere.

Ibaifoto is in Bayonne

On the opposite side of Hendaye's bay, Fontarrabia and Jaïzkibel mountain are watching you.

From Hendaye's yachting port, a tiny shuttle leads you there.

You won't regret to go walking by the flowery narrow streets that climb throught the ancient city to the castle Parador.

Jaïzkibel mountain provides nice walks during which you might even meet "betisoak"
(ancient breed of small wild mountain cows).
